Title: Self-deception
Setting: Somewhere late in FFX
Theme + Number: #25, "Lies/Stories"
Pairing: Auron/Lulu
Rating: PG-13

Warnings: Nekkidness. ("Naked means no clothes. Nekkid means naked and up to no good." ~ Unknown.)

"Hmph." Auron's hand played idly across Lulu's hip as he watched her eyelids droop.

She snuggled closer. "Mmm?"

Lulu tugged his ponytail gently. "What 'hmph'?"

"You once said," Auron murmured, sliding his calloused palm up her stomach and making her shiver, "that there was nothing between us."

Despite the unspoken question, she could not resist a faint chuckle. She folded her hand over his. "Well, you know, there isn't." The toe of one foot traced his calf to demonstrate.

"That's not exactly what you meant."

"Because I thought..." She sighed out. "Anyway. This is all we have time for."

The pained beauty of the inevitability is almost too much.

And the fact that he brings forth the subject raises many sad questions.

I was debating saving this conversation for Resurrection -- and I don't promise not to revisit this scene a bit more fully -- but that "You said there was nothing between us" line has been floating around in various half-written chapters of Resurrection since mid-March. *sad smile*

This is wonderful. Amazing how you can put so many feelings in such few words. *sad smile like auronlu*

Lovely! But so sad at the same time. Such a painful but beautiful little piece.
